Mordecai Richler (January 27, 1931 - July 3, 2001) was a Canadian author, scriptwriter and litterateur. Richler was among Canada's better known & virtually all widely promulgated writers. He was too the controversial figure. Richler's sturdy opinions in contemporary American issues easy matched, & periodically exceeded, a satiric sting of his fiction.

Boy of the scrapyard dealer, Richler was born & raised in St. Urbain Street in The Plateau neighbourhood of Montreal. He attended Sir George Williams University (at present Concordia University) to study English however dropped out prior to completing his degree. ''Barney's Version was chosen for the inclusion in Canada Reads 2004, championed by author Zsuzsi Gartner.
